Reissue Compilation from 1989 / Pressed in 2016 / This is one of three sets of Glen Brown's '70s singles that were originally issued on his Pantomine label. The other two albums in this series (instrumental, vocal sides) are well worth your attention too. The remastered sound has improved the clarity and opened up things nicely. The booklet has some good information on the tracks and period ephemera. These are sides using a number of rhythms that Brown used over and over again on his singles. But the quality is high. Brown used only the best session players and the best studios like King Tubby's for his productions. These sides were originally only available as Jamaican 7" issues from 1972-74. Included are great things by U Roy ("Number One In The World"), a couple of things by Big Youth (including "Opportunity Rock"), I Roy ("Festive Season") and a couple more sides. Prince Jazzbo has three tracks (like "Mr. Harry Skank") along with other toasters rhyming over the tight rhythms. This is a good selection of Brown's work, and along with the other two volumes are a good addition to fans of mid-'70s Jamaican music. And for the low price it's an even better deal. Check it out.
